My Lovely Ones design, which was born from my inspiration trip to Rome & Florence this past winter. While walking around the galleries and museums and soaking in works of art by the likes of Da Vinci, Botticelli, and Carravaggio, I remained in awe but something was missing the beauty of Black women so I decided to create my own gallery.
With a rich, earthy-red color and mud clothseque motifs in the ground, Black women in silhouette and marvelous hairstyles are framed by the very same ornate picture frames I saw in the Uffizi and Galleria Borghese — surrounded by bright bursts of color and adorned with jewelry, some featuring remixed Adinkra symbols for wisdom, abundance, and courage — my wish for my sisters across the diaspora.
