This kaftan features my Lovely Ones design, which was born from my inspiration trip to Rome & Florence this past winter. While walking around the galleries and museums and soaking in works of art by the likes of Da Vinci, Botticelli, and Carravaggio, I remained in awe but something was missing. I decided to create my own gallery of Black women in fabric.
With a rich, earthy-red color and mud clothseque motifs in the ground, Black women in silhouette and marvelous hairstyles are framed by the very same ornate picture frames I saw in the Uffizi and Galleria Borghese — surrounded by bright bursts of color and adorned with jewelry, some featuring remixed Adinkra symbols for wisdom, abundance, and courage — my wish for my sisters across the diaspora.
Each kaftan is crafted from 100% cotton that's as practical as it is luxurious. Toss it in the washing machine without a second thought—these pieces are made for real life. The vibrant colors come from digital printing with reactive inks, which means the rich hues you fall in love with today will stay just as bold through countless washes and wears.
